On 18 October 2008, Global Handwashing Day was celebrated for the first time in over 70 countries.

Bollywood actress Raima Sen, accompanied by Sulabh International’s Bhindeswar Pathak, launched the Global Hand Washing Day campaign to teach school children about handwashing at constitution club in New Delhi, India.
Thank you for shining a light on these often underestimated and even more often unknown ills. Diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea, and tuberculosis kill children in masses every day – and it’s sad to know that a few simple hygienic actions could prevent so much death. By the way – thanks for continuing your blog – sanitation is WAY overlooked.
